We've got an article in the Heathwood neighborhood newsletter written by Gabby Cruz! I hope you enjoy reading about it! We'd like to thank everyone for supporting us our first year and we hope we continue to get your amazing support.
We've all gotten used to the idea of calling in an order to a restaurant or cafe, walking in to pick it up, and leaving as quickly as you came. We've also accepted that coffee shops or cafes are for grabbing a quick bite to eat or sipping coffee while studying; they've never been anything more.
. . . However, Stephanie Bridgers doesn't fall into this mindset. She believes a coffee shop is where you come to socialize, relax, meet new people, and enjoy quality food.
Establishing a sense of community is a goal that Stephanie's had in mind since opening the The Local Buzz. This is especially evident when she's hosting events like Old Woodlands Bunco Night, book signings by local authors, The Breakfast Club, Middle School Girl's Night Out, and Adult Coloring Club. Over the summer, she's expanded her offerings of events such as Cupcake Wars, Mommy & Me Coffee, Bingo, Fitness Friday, Tween & Teen Game Afternoon, Cookie Decorating, and Pokemon Club. These activities stimulate friendships not only among people that share a common interest, lifestyle, age range, or background but also people from different walks of life. With each meeting, the bonds of community grow stronger.
After opening the cafe, Stephanie realized that if you were gluten-free or vegan, it was difficult to find places to grab lunch or enjoy a dessert, so she began whipping up batches of gluten-free brownies, vegan scones, and other delicious treats more people could enjoy when visiting The Local Buzz. After introducing vegan and gluten-free options to her menu, she began experimenting with other recipe alternatives, including the Paleo Diet.
Stephanie's sense of community also includes supporting other local businesses; The Local Buzz acquires their food stock and many of their products from local business like Turtle Creek Coffee, Sweet Cream Co, Silver Spoon, and Double Trouble Donuts. Through her dedication and compassion, Stephanie has achieved the many goals of The Local Buzz: establishing a family friendly cafe, helping families in all types of situation feel safe and cherished, celebrating the diversity of the people in Columbia, and bringing people together to rediscover what it means to be a community.
